The Allan Labor Government is delivering training for staff to better support students with disabilities at school.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Education Ben Carroll today announced that 24 mainstream schools in Geelong are now supported by Inclusion Outreach Coaches.
On the Bellarine, this includes:
- Bellarine Secondary
- Leopold Primary
- Wallington Primary
- Surfside Primary
- St Leonards Primary
Inclusion Outreach Coaches are specialists who help school staff to make schools welcoming for all students.
They work across up to three mainstream schools each, developing all-school inclusive practices.
665 mainstream schools in Victoria are supported by Inclusion Outreach Coaches.
The Inclusive Classrooms professional learning program also helps teachers implement practical strategies for inclusive classrooms.
Over 8,000 courses have now been completed face-to-face and online across Victoria.
Labor is also ensuring staff have key information so students with special needs can learn effectively.
Disability Inclusion Profiles now capture over 26,000 students’ strengths, goals and functional needs across the state.
They include information from people who know the students best, including the students themselves, their families and school staff.
Profiles help schools give students adjustments to enable them to reach their full potential.
These measures are all part of Labor’s record $1.8 billion Disability Inclusion program, which is also helping schools recruit and train specialist staff.
